Gardens By The Bay

In our latest trip to Singapore, I really looked forward to visiting Gardens by the Bay. Even if SG is a Megalopolis full of high rise buildings, they still have open spaces with lovely array of trees. And what's better is they are now recreating nature.

For 28 Sgd, we were able to explore both the Flower & Forest Dome. Upon entering the Flower Dome, the atmosphere was quite cold which is an escape from the afternoon heat.

There was an ongoing display namely War of the Roses. It is where I found my knight in shining armour, but then I was more interested in the flowers. A mild scent of the Roses rise from the field. There are plants from different side of the globe.

As stated in their website, It is the biggest column less greenhouse in the world. It's a great engineering feat. And imagine recreating the climate & the living condition of the plants, it must have been a great effort for the maintenance team.

As for the love of flora & fauna, it was a great trip for me. I was exposed to several ones that I have encountered for the first time.

I do not even have to go to Africa to find Baobab Trees.

Late that afternoon, we crossed and walked our way to the Cloud Forest Dome. Before entering I realized I lost my ticket, panic aside, I just showed them the receipt and they did let me in. Once you enter the dome, we were greeted by a massive man made waterfalls sending out cool mists in all directions.

We walked along the path with thick vegetation. The structure in the middle has a collection of mostly tropical plants attached to its walls. The path will take you around the structure and we had to walk along the elevated walks which is not advisable when you have fear of heights or vertigo. It will take you a few hours just exploring the place. From the topmost part, you can already see the bay and the tiny people below.

It think it was already 8pm when we exited the conservatory. It was the best time to visit the Supertrees Grove. They look of "Avatar"-ish at night. I almost fell from the steps taking photos of the trees.

The view of conservatories from afar.

The easiest way to reach Gardens By The Bay is to take the MRT and alight at Bayfront Station. Once you walk pass through the tunnel. You'd be able to take a good view at the view deck a few steps from the exit. There are shuttles available but it's only up to 4 P.M. In the evening you can walk to The Shoppes at Marina Bay. They have a light & fountain show at 8P.M.
